What are YOU doing October 5th?

Nationwide Protests to Drive Out the Bush Regime-
OCTOBER 5-- In Over 80 Cities and Towns
No Work, No School-- MARCH
On Thursday, October 5, people will walk out of school, take off work, gather in town squares, and MARCH in cities across the country, declaring their intention bring the Bush program to a halt.
In the last week, momentum is growing as the number of cities planning protests jumped from 50 to over 105. Meanwhile, the Bush administration is racing to bolt into place an unprecedented new law which would legalize torture and severely restrict habeas corpus, the basic right to legal redress first established in England in 1215.
"Face it. The Bush regime is remaking the world, very quickly, in a fascist way and for generations to come. Denial won't help. And the Democrats aren't stopping them. But WE must. And we can. There are millions of us…" This message calling people out on October 5 is being heard nationally on Air America radio spots. Thousands also contributed to publish a full-page ad in USA Today on September 20, reading in part: "Endless wars. Torture. Katrina. Theocracy… This regime does not represent us and we will drive it out."
In the past week, organizers of October 5 marches have had to battle with police departments for permits to march through the center of the city in Chicago, New York City, and San Francisco. They see these obstructions linked to increased police state measures as Bush threatens a new war on Iran and the "Military Commissions Act of 2006" races through the Senate with bi-partisan support. Sold as a compromise, this "torture bill" legally enshrines the president's category of "enemy combatant," allows evidence obtained by torture to be admitted to trial by military tribunals, gives the President the right to interpret the Geneva Conventions, and eliminates the right of habeas corpus for those held by military commissions.
Debra Sweet, national coordinator of World Can't Wait said Tuesday, "We are at a defining moment for this country and its people. There are millions who don't want to live in a theocratic new Rome – but we don't have unlimited time to stop this regime. Whether we act – or fail to act – right now will impact the lives of millions all over the world for generations. We are putting this to everyone: When all other avenues of change are blocked, what do people do? Hit the streets. This is the chance we have on October 5."
The World Can't Wait – Drive Out the Bush Regime CALL has been signed by tens of thousands of people, including SEAN PENN, GORE VIDAL, HARRY BELAFONTE, DAN ELLSBERG, JONATHAN KOZOL, SEN. JAMES ABOUREZK, ERICA JONG, U.S. REP. JOHN CONYERS, MARGARET CHO, MICHAEL ERIC DYSON, CORNEL WEST, HOWARD ZINN, MARK RUFFALO, JANE FONDA, CINDY SHEEHAN, PAUL HAGGIS, ALICE WALKER, and REV. JESSE JACKSON.
Check www.worldcantwait.org for locations for October 5 protests. Interviews available with selected signers.
If I have time, I'm gonna stop by the one in Tallahassee. I might be someplace though...unfortunately.
I''m going to try my hardest to go, and so should you!Theres one in Volusia county, and in Orlando! So no excuses!
If you want the world to change YOU have to initiate that change. Take a stand!

Five years after 9/11, the world is surprisingly peaceful. President Bush's pragmatic and bipartisan leadership has kept the United States not just strong but unexpectedly popular across the globe. The president himself is poised to enjoy big GOP wins in the midterm elections, a validation of his subtle understanding of the challenges facing the country. A new survey of historians puts him in the first tier of American presidents.
Five years after that awful September day, even Bush's fiercest critics have learned an important lesson: leadership counts. Imagine if we'd done the opposite of these things. This country—and the world—would be in a heap of trouble.

Family Relationships and Developments: This is the BIGGEST BS class in the world. It has a FOOTBALL player in it. My advisor said it would be good for my major. And I do see things that I can take from this class, so its not a complete waste.
World History since 1815: I love modern history, especially WWII, the Korean war and the Vietnam war. This class is very exciting, and the professor is cool. There is no textbook so I saved a bunch of money
Those are my Monday Wednesday classes. I also have Family and History on Friday.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays I have an AWESOME Dinosaur class. At first I thought it'd be a blow off, but its actually some work. But its all so incredibly interesting that I dont mind it. The professors are about the looniest guys you'll ever meet. Its hilarious. The class is pretty big, but not as big as bio 1 (which is the core science class EVERYONE takes, but dinosaurs takes care of that credit) which is about 1000 ish people.
Then my last class meets every Thursday and its Campus Band. Which I totally love. They're SO GOOD. And everyone is so nice. I'm the only freshman tuba, but I dont feel looked down upon for my "rookie" status. I've made friends with a senior tuba who's hilarious. Its just a great class.
I also get the amazing opportunity to be a founding member of the FSU Peer Mediator's club. Which is advised by Dr. Bruno!
Before coming here I was afraid of not fitting in, or it not being for me, but over this past almost month, through the people I've met, classes I've taken, food I've eaten, I've realized how perfect FSU is for me. and I have an awesome girlfriend who I love with all my heart
Oh, and before I get ready for History, to all you Miami fans out there...
GO NOLES!!!! 13-10!!!!
Watch out Gayterds. We're coming. And we're coming hard.

Dorm life hasnt been with out its downs, though. Its only the second day, and already twice Smooha and I have been locked out of our OWN bathroom. Actually, the only reason I'm typing this right now is because I'm locked out. I've been clenching for quite a while now, and I dont know where my suite-mates are. I could use the bathroom down the hall, but I'm waiting for company to arrive. Then I'll get a good magazine, and plop down.
So, as I said before, we're in room 007. And already, I've taken the liberty to draw the James Bond 007 logo on both our dry erase board, and a dry erase poster outside of the door. I think it is good, but my art skills are comparable to that of a kindergartner. But this isnt that bad. Smooha and I will have to put up some last finishing touches in the next few days. And by finishing touches I mean posters. Smooha has a lot of emo band posters, so I might accidentally "spill" something on them. My posters are freaking awesome! Two Star Wars ones, a Beatles one and a Napoleon Dynamite one that I won in a drawing. I've never actually seen that movie, and after seeing Nacho Libre, I really dont want to. But I might give in if I'm extremely, on the verge of dying, bored.
In other news, new student convocation is today. That means, after that my parents go home. Which means, I'm officially on my own. But, more exciting is the ice cream party after the convocation! Woo hoo! This fatty could never say no to free ice cream. After that I might try to get a poker game set up in the common room to meet some people and make some friends. Hopefully the majority doenst want to play for money, because all I got is 30 bucks and an FSU card. I travel light.
Well, that pretty much covers most of what's going on. Anna is getting a plane ticket to visit me in September, so thats exciting. :)
Another, less glamorous note, after trying to pick the bathroom lock with a paperclip, and being unsuccessful, I've decided to christen the hallway toilet.
I apologize in advance if I ruined anybodys lunch.

Tally bound

contemplative
Yesterday was a very sad day :(
It marked the end of Anna's visit.
After I left and drove for about an hour, Anna texted saying that her flight was delayed. Then a few minutes later she called to tell me that it had been cancelled. Which totally sucks. However, after a few hours of intense negotiations with airport personelle, she boarded a flight to O'hare, and got home before the day was done. Which is good :-). Also, on the ride home my car broke. It still runs quite fine, but the speedometer doesnt work, and neither does the odometer. So, I have no idea how fast I'm going, or how far I've gone. Which gives me benefit of the doubt if I get pulled over. The car wont be fixed in time for when I leave for tally, so I'll just find a mechanic up there. I leave on THURSDAY...and I'm a bit apprehensive/excited/not ready at all for it.
In other, other news, my house A/C is busted. And let me be the first to tell you. It is as hot inside as it is outside. Fricken A!
So, either I'm gonna be seeing Snakes on a Plane alone, or with some new found dorm buddies on friday, and either way, that movie is gonna own.
As of Thursday, August 17th I will be a resident of Tallahassee. I will be rooming in Cawthon Hall, room 7 if anyone wants to visit me ;)
Also, if anyone feels inclinded to mail me anything it should be mailed to:

my FSU email address is tad06c@garnet.acns.fsu.edu, but I usually just use brassmastertom@gmail.com

For all of you who have lived, or traveled to Florida, you may know what I'm talking about.
Samantha Pak, daughter of Sam Pak will be attending FSU in the fall.
For all of you who dont know who Sam Pak is, I have a few words for you:
"Did you pay retail?! Then you paid too much!"
Being the creepy person I am, I also facebooked her, and found her profile. I am undecided on whether or not I should friend her.
This is exciting information, though.
With a large amount of negotiating, and the same amount of luck, I could get free appliances if I befriend her (personally, not facebook-wise)!
Anyways, orientation was a blast minus the short hours of sleeping, but meh. C'est la vie.
Woo Hoo! Tuesday is gonna be a blast! I cant wait to be in Illinois!

Last night Smooha, Nik, Jerry, Taylor, Jen, Brandee, Mattfox, and Rebecca's little brother Andrew went to see Nacho Libre. I thought the movie sucked. Completely. Definitely a low point for Jack Black, but. It was still fun. The car ride was cool. Andrew is quite the little Star Wars nerd, but he still has much to learn. As does Smooha. This time next year, I'll have Smooha well versed in Star Wars trivia.
Any who, my book list this summer is ever-changing. I gave up on Catch 22 because I don't like it. I gave up on Pay it Forward because I cant get into it, so, I'm gonna start on some Expanded Universe Star Wars stuff that I just dug up in my closet! I'll finish a few of those before I leave for Illinois in 10 days! I cant wait! Then Anna and I will read Angels and Demons together. I cant wait to see you again Anna. I love you.
Anyways, Jen did one of these, so I'm going to, too. Just like the directions say!
Leave your name, and ..

2. I'll challenge you to try something
3. I'll pick a colour that I associate with you
4. I'll tell you something I like about you

6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of
7. I'll ask you something I've always wanted to ask you
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on yours

Two years, one back surgery, and one bowling ball case later...

So last night Nik, Taylor, Jerry and my self went bowling. I haven't bowled for a LONG time. When I went to get my shoes out of my bag the straps fell off. Its only a couple years old, the bag. Its just been in my garage for 2 years...The shoes are still in working condition. And I didn't fall on my face at the alley, so thats good news for future attempts to bowl. Why did Jerry and I ever quit bowling team? Oh yeah, coach sucked. I managed a 177 and a 169 for a 346 series, averaging 173. It was a lot fun, but my back is hurting like a mother now.
In other news, my plans for a bike ride or a swim have been thwarted today by Tropical Storm (almost Hurricane!) Alberto! Thank you Alberto!
I really need to start doing more physical therapy. If I cant boost up my stamina then I'm screwed for marching season. Heck, if I cant boost up my stamina there wont BE a marching season for this wannabe Marching Chief. If I can hardly bowl two games with out being worn out/pseudo-injured, then how am I to survive marching season?
The other night a few of us went to see Cars. That movie is hilarious! I recommend it to everyone! I was skeptical at first, but it is really, really funny. Then we went to Steak n Shake where Calzone and Smooha both got free shakes because our waitress was too lazy to get them a new check. Had I known that I would have taken full advantage of that. C'est la vie.
Then we took the highway home. That was hilarious. I took the left lane, and he took the right lane. We matched speed at about 55 and watched in amusement as people started flashing us, honking at us, almost ramming us. And my personal favorite, flicking me off for about 10 seconds. I followed that guy to our exit, and I pulled up beside him, rolled down my window, and waved. Then drove off. We need three cars next time. Because much of 95 is three lanes now...And apparently it is unlawful to disrupt the flow of traffic in the left lane. So we'll be doing exactly the speed limit. Which isnt unlawful.
In two weeks I'm going up to Illinois! Woot! I cant wait. Its been too long since I've seen you, Anna. I love you. And, we're gonna be watching lots of horror movies, so I want everyones opinion on what you think are the scariest movies.
I need some advil and food wouldn't hurt, either.

Thats right! We've got motherfuckin' snakes on this motherfuckin' plane!
I have GOT to see that movie. It looks so stupid that it is worth the 6.50 paid to get in.
Since I have no access to Digital Fortress at the moment, I will start on the Jew book: The Promise.
I will be reading Angels & Demons eventually, Brandee, do not fret.
I spent an HOUR last night (or should I say this morning at 2AM) on Danbrown.com doing the Da Vinci Code "code breaker" thing. I got all of the answers, only to be rewarded with clicking on the Mona Lisa's freaking left eye? What kind of hint is that!? Oh well, at least it left me with some understanding of what the follow up book will be about!
Until next time,
-Tom
